D. READING 4: IN-DEPTH STUDY OF A POEM

1. Read the poem The Wild Swans At Coole in your Workbook.

"The Wild Swans at Coole" is a lyric poem by the Irish poet William Butler Yeats (1865–1939). Written between 1916 and early 1917, the poem was first published in the June 1917 issue of the Little Review.  It was written during a period when Yeats was staying with his friend Lady Gregory at her home at Coole Park.

E. READING 5: STUDYING & EVALUATING A TEXT

1.    Read the short play ‘A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen.


2.    You can read it online or download it from Project Gutenberg.


3.    Read the play as a group together.  Act out parts of the play. 

4.    Discuss the questions in your group as you complete each act.

H. READING 8: BIAS & FACT IN  A JOB ADVERT

1.    Read the job advertisement carefully - in your Workbook.


2.    Create a key to show which sections/sentences/words are fact and which are opinion or biased. (Example:  You can use a colour code with highlighters or you could use a letter key – it’s up to you!)

 

3. Go to the website Student News Daily.  Choose a news story and answer the questions about the biased news article.  Print the questions and include with your answers in your Portfolio.  

4. For further reading, read the blog Fact, Fiction, or Opinion? Evaluating Online Information.

5. Try a few online exercises on bias, fact or opinions.  Include at least one answered exercise with your Portfolio.
